BRAGA PORTUGUESE CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2025
Objectives of the operation
This operation arises as a legacy of the bid for European Capital of Culture and represents recognition of the work carried out in preparation for ECoC 2027. The award of the title Portuguese Capital of Culture 2025 reflects a commitment to the continuity of the vision, concept and artistic programme set out in the Bid Dossier. This operation is a cultural and artistic programming project aimed at enhancing the tourism experience and strengthening the competitiveness of the regional economy, grounded in the values of social inclusion and social innovation.
The general objectives of the operation are therefore to:
(i) celebrate national artistic creation;
(ii) promote its internationalisation and European dimension;
(iii) strengthen the capacity of Braga’s cultural and artistic sector.
Activities and expected/achieved results
The calculation of audiences considered the events planned for 2025, with an additional growth rate of 30%, in line with the increase in programming expected to be achieved in 2025 through the acquisition of the technical equipment envisaged in this operation. The projected number of visitors for the project was based on the targets set out in the 2025 Activity Plan (50,600 visitors) and, taking into account the expected growth rate (30%), results in a total of 65,780—representing an increase of 15,180 attendees in 2025.
This increase in audiences is consistent with the estimated investment and, above all, reflects the fact that the operation is expected to support the presentation of more complex productions, while also enabling the hosting of significant international productions.
