Braga Media Arts

Braga is a UNESCO Creative City in the field of Media Arts. Since 2017, it has been part of an international network of cities that place creativity at the heart of their social, cultural and economic development. It is currently the only city in the Iberian Peninsula with this distinction in the field of Media Arts.

Among the main actions carried out במסגרת its action plan are Circuito – Braga Media Arts Educational Service, a city-wide programme aimed at fostering the development of digital creation skills among both specialised and non-specialised audiences, while also promoting inclusive and participatory initiatives grounded in the relationship between art and technology; and INDEX, a biennial of Art and Technology with unique characteristics in Portugal, which seeks to establish Braga as an international reference in this field.

At the same time, Braga Media Arts is a partner in the Master’s degree in Media Arts at the University of Minho, actively participates in a range of international networks, and is involved in several European-funded projects related to areas such as digital literacy, youth democracy in Europe and the New European Bauhaus.

In 2024, Braga hosted the 16th Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
