Established as a result of Braga 2012 – European Youth Capital, gnration is a space for creation, performance and exhibition in the fields of music and contemporary art, as well as the relationship between art and technology. With a building open to the community, it aims to establish itself as a hub for cultural and creative dynamics, positioning itself as a space dedicated to engaging and developing new audiences by exposing them to diverse and relevant artistic practices from a contemporary and cosmopolitan perspective.
Awarded the National Urban Rehabilitation Prize in 2014, the gnration building is a versatile venue that allows for a wide range of events, including performances, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, meetings and seminars. In addition to its outdoor spaces, the interior includes a black box, two galleries, a multipurpose room and rooms for conferences and training. The building also features a café located in the inner courtyard.
Since 2021, gnration has been part of the Portuguese Network of Theatres and Cineteatros (RTCP) and, since 2023, it has also been part of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC). Since 2022, it has also been the only Portuguese institution to join the European Media Art Platform (EMAP), an initiative aimed at promoting and showcasing new works and artists in the field of Media Arts.
