Braga's White Night made a 'qualitative leap forward' by investing in its cultural dimension

Event generated an additional €11.25 million in economic impact
The 2026 edition focused on local artistic creation and collaboration between municipal cultural venues and the city’s cultural organisations. A study by AEB confirms the event’s economic impact.

Braga’s White Night 2026 retained the popular character that has made it one of the city’s largest events, while expanding its cultural offering beyond the main concerts. For Nuno Gouveia, Executive Director of Faz Cultura – Braga Municipal Culture Company and the Municipality’s representative in the organisation of the event, this ‘qualitative leap forward’ was the result of a more diverse programme and closer ties with local organisations. The event is becoming increasingly important to the people of Braga, while also attracting growing numbers of visitors.

The findings were presented at the Braga Business Association (AEB), during a session presenting the study on the event’s economic impact. The session was led by Rui Marques, AEB’s Director-General, and included an address by Daniel Vilaça, the association’s president, who emphasised the importance of Braga’s White Night to the city.

‘Beyond the figures, which are obviously very important, it is worth highlighting the strengthening of the cultural dimension of Braga’s White Night: cultural venues, local artists and organisations across the city working together, as is the case with AEB, one of the event’s main partners,’ said Nuno Gouveia. He assured that the next edition would continue to improve in quality and strengthen its ties with cultural organisations: ‘Braga’s White Night only makes sense if the people of Braga feel that this is their festival and that they are involved in it. We will further increase the presence of local artists.’

The economic impact study presented by AEB is based on electronic payments processed through the SIBS network between 31 August and 6 September and confirms the event’s impact on the city. Braga’s White Night generated a total business volume of €55.48 million and an estimated additional economic impact of €11.25 million compared with typical periods of the year, with spending continuing beyond the three main days of the event.

New audiences and new ways to experience the city

The diverse programme brought new audiences to Braga and offered new ways to discover the city, with the participation of venues and institutions such as MUZEU – Contemporary Thought and Art, gnration, Theatro Circo, Museu dos Biscainhos, Museu D. Diogo de Sousa, FORUM Braga and Palácio do Raio. The reopening of Museu da Imagem was one of the highlights, alongside new offerings in cinema, jazz and performance, as well as videomapping and drone shows.

Over the three days of the event, the streets were filled with people. The aim was always to preserve this popular character while giving it greater cultural depth. The figures also confirmed that the decision to programme activities on Sunday brought additional benefits to businesses in the historic city centre.
