gnration is strengthening its prominent position in contemporary art at national level, following the selection of two projects in which it is involved for support under the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC).
The venue, managed by Faz Cultura – Empresa Municipal de Cultura de Braga, applied as lead partner with the Summer Laboratories initiative. This project, which supports local artistic creation, has been promoted by the organisation since 2015 and currently involves partnerships with Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery (Vila do Conde), CAAA – Centre for Art and Architecture Affairs (Guimarães), and LAC – Laboratory of Creative Activities.
Within the RPAC call, Summer Laboratories was ranked as the highest-scoring project in its funding category, securing its continuation for the next two years.
As a partner, gnration is also involved in the project Delta, led by Venha a Nós a Boa Morte (Viseu), in partnership with Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre (Ribeira Grande), which is also expected to receive funding.
According to Nuno Gouveia, Executive Director of Faz Cultura, “this recognition confirms the quality of the work that gnration and Faz Cultura have been developing in the promotion of contemporary creation. It is particularly significant that Summer Laboratories, a project dedicated to local artistic creation and collaboration between territories, was the highest-ranked in its category. This support allows us to reinforce our commitment to artists and to continue positioning Braga as an active and relevant territory in contemporary art in Portugal.”
gnration is already preparing the next edition of Summer Laboratories. Until 6 April, artists and collectives from the Braga district and the municipality of Vila do Conde can apply to the open call with proposals for new original works to be developed through artistic residencies during the summer months.
The Support Programme for Projects of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC), announced on Thursday, 5 March, will support 19 projects, comprising 63 partnerships involving a total of 36 entities. The call has now entered the hearing of interested parties phase.
