As usual, the
programme begins at gnration as part of Braga White Night (5 September), with Experimentation Station, led by Grupo Coral do Auto-tune, an activity designed to explore vocal correction technology as a space for encounter and shared listening. Throughout the afternoon, several guided tours of the exhibitions at gnration will also take place.
Throughout the season, three BMA labs will be held. On 10 October, Olga Kisseleva, an artist and pioneer in the research and exploration of new forms of artistic practice, will explore the intersection of ethics, sustainability, ecology, art and technology. On 28 November, composer and visual artist Félicia Atkinson will lead a masterclass in which she shares her creative process, inviting participants to shift their attention away from production and performance towards curiosity and presence. On 12 December, Rosemary Lee will present Digital Dark Matter, a masterclass inspired by the exhibition of the same name, focusing on the less transparent aspects inherent in data-intensive visual technologies, such as generative systems based on machine learning.
Ocelo, the latest creation by Daniela Cruz, will be presented at Theatro Circo on 6 and 7 November. A sensory and multidisciplinary performance aimed at younger audiences, it stems from the need to look positively at the world we live in.
Between October and December, gnration hosts the first edition of a new format, Video Club, led by Bruno Rodrigues Martins. Over the course of three months, participants will work with two experiential forms of video: the live, ephemeral image, and the image that persists and exists independently of space and time. The outcome of these months of collaborative creation will be presented both as a live performance, in partnership with ODE – Orquestra de Dispositivos Eletrónicos, and as an installation, as part of OCUPA #11 – a programme dedicated to electronic music and digital art in Braga, taking place on 4 and 5 December at gnration.
Activities for schools continue to play a central role in this new season. In October, WE! Workshops de Experimentação return, this time led by Miguel Ramos under the title Painting the Inside (28–30 October), alongside a teacher training session led by Guilherme Martins, exploring the creative potential of the accessible programming language p5.js (31 October). In November, Maribel Mendes Sobreira will lead a teacher training session proposing a critical approach to contemporary educational practices (21 November).
In December, during the winter school holidays, young people aged 12 and over are invited to take part in the workshop From Here to There, Movement – Between Reality and Animation, in which the Anima VAM project uses maps, photographs and memories to introduce participants to hybrid animation techniques (17 and 18 December).
Over the coming months, several favourites return for younger audiences: CoderDojo (19 September), Art is a Phenomenon – Botanical Stickers (17 October), and Cinema PLAY, with a new session entitled Stories About Kindness with a Touch of Madness (12 December), the latter taking place at Theatro Circo.
As in previous seasons, guided tours of the exhibitions at gnration will continue, with dates scheduled throughout September, October and November for the general public, as well as by appointment for schools and groups.
