Braga 25 leaves a lasting record of a year of intense artistic programming in the city with the presentation of a publication that brings together photographs and memories from many of those who contributed to shaping the Portuguese Capital of Culture. The book will be launched next Thursday, 11 June, at 6:00 pm at Theatro Circo, in a session open to all interested members of the public.
The publication is titled B25, which is also the name that will be adopted for the legacy initiatives of Portuguese Capital of Culture 2025. Its pages bring together photographs from some of the more than 1,300 activities that formed part of the programme, alongside 25 testimonies from participants involved in building Braga 25 — artists, cultural professionals, associations and citizens from different areas of activity across Braga.
Braga 25 began to take shape in 2018 with the development of the cultural strategy Braga Cultura 2030. It was through this process, and the same collaborative methodology, that the city’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2027 was developed. Braga was one of the finalist cities and was subsequently awarded the title of Portuguese Capital of Culture 2025.
The entire process will also be available for consultation on the Braga 25 website, which, on 11 June, will become a repository of the Portuguese Capital of Culture programme, bringing together publications and other content accessible to everyone.
In the words of Nuno Gouveia, Executive Director of Faz Cultura: “Braga 25 leaves the city with a legacy that deserves to be preserved and valued. This publication bears witness to Braga’s ability to affirm its cultural identity, mobilise the community and strengthen the bonds that unite its citizens. Our commitment is to ensure that this legacy continues to generate new opportunities for culture, contributing to a more dynamic, cohesive city that is prepared for the challenges of the future.”
The publication and the Braga repository website were developed by Faz Cultura – Braga Municipal Culture Company, with B25 featuring graphic design by OOF Design Studio.
